Now that’s a tricky question isn’t it?

How often have you sat down and procrastinated over finishing something or even starting something because you didn’t have all the answers.

I can’t tell you how long I procrastinated over my website.  The name had to be right, the colours had to be perfect, the words had to read just so.

Ok, so maybe I was right to do some of that.  I wanted my website to strike a cord with my target market. I want them to feel that my Reflections Coaching web pages are nice places to be and I want them to reflect my personality too.  However, I’m not perfect.  Did my drive for perfection cost me time in getting my website out there in the public domain?  Is it better to get something out there earlier and strive for continual improvements or was I right to strive for perfection and risk missing a few potential clients?

Its a question that I don’t have a perfect answer for, everyone is different and decisions should be made on an individual basis, however the question remains the same and its one I believe we should all ask ourselves when we work through any kind of project.  Its about the cost of time versus the quality of our output – its about striking a balance – food for thought!

So next time you sit down to that big project – ask yourself – what exactly is good enough?

  1. Hi Carolyn – just wanted to say I love your website! Has a very calming effect, gentle but with a solid inner core that is results focused. I just wrote a blog on reflection but my style is very different! You’re so right about perfectionism – same for me about my website (and I’m still not totally happy) yet it’s out there and that’s got to be good enough right now. Good luck with Reflections and if I come across anyone who would be a good fit with you, I’ll send them your way.

    warm regards
    David

  2. Thank you so much for your comments and indeed the offer of any suitable referrals. I believe we will always be in search of that ideal of perfectionism, however if we truly believe there is no room for improvement then we’re both in the wrong job!!!
