I’ve started to play around with the cyanotype process. I was first introduced to this back in the day when I studied A level photography as an evening course – it uses the same processes as creating a “blueprint”. I love the process – some of the joys of the darkroom but with less chemical processes and perfect for a hot sunny day.

Cyanotype on its own isn’t really art. Anyone can purchase a little kit online and make pretty little prints on paper from natural materials or household items and get fantastic results. As my art tutor would say to me, “is this craft or art?”

I’m using the process as an alternative to printing on fabrics, as a background to embroidery. The process becomes less predictable on different fabrics and when introducing dyes. Its early days at the moment but I hope you like the results.

I really can’t be bothered to count the french knots – I estimate 250-300 so there’s a few hours gone into this labour or love. I’ve called it Elderflower summer – for me it sums up the lazy days I’ve managed in the garden during lock down.

It needs a slightly bigger hoop for framing – one’s on its way so it’s not in the shop yet. If you’re interested – get in touch directly. 07714 216388
