I’ve been preserving the beauty of nature by making unique silver copies of leaves for about 3 years now or is it 4? But I was particularly proud of this:

All my leaves are special after all I’ve practically given birth to them, well watch them grow from vulnerable delicate little green leaves to immortalising them, surely that’s the same thing? But there was something about its shape, the way the leaf folded and it was slightly bigger than the rest (I have to watch size and weight otherwise I have to hallmark the silver.

Whilst debating whether or not the hawthorn is a keeper, I receive a facebook message from a follower. She likes it but would like it in gold. Not everyone quite understands the nature of my work. I coat the leaves in pure silver over a number of hours, then fire them. At this time the real leaf burns off leaving an exact and highly unique version of the original – they can’t be repeated in silver or any other media. Also gold is quite scary to work with, it can be a very expensive mistake but I hate to disappoint anyone.

After some considerable soul searching and lets face it – I was still of the idea I wanted to keep it myself and coating totally in gold may have resulted in something a little too brassy for nature. I managed to find a fire-able gold that can be used to coat pure silver (not gold leaf) and came up with the solution to add accents.

Apologies for the fuzzy pic, I was so excited to get this to my client, I completely forgot to take a decent pic. Needless to say she is very happy with this little Christmas present to herself and I’m thrilled having learned a new skill.

I’m happy to make leaves to order, however I am reliant on nature and at this time of year real leaves are scarce. I do keep a small supply in to take to art markets. If you wanted to buy one, have a quick look at the samples in my shop then get in touch to discuss your requirements. I may have just what you’re looking for.
