What a beautiful day, today is. Its a little colder and I’ve been for my morning swim. The water temperature must have dropped another degree and I’m wondering how long it will be before I reach for my wet suit.

The leaves are starting to fall and I’m really grateful that I remembered to head out in summer and pick a few hawthorn, blackberry and sycamore keys whilst still green and flexible. Once the leaves dry, they become brittle and are much likely to break when I’m making.

So last month a beautiful batch of sycamore keys ventured into the kiln in soft clay form, and reappeared, magically transformed into hardened silver. Even though I know and understand the process, it still amazes me that I make this wizardry happen (and without a wand too).

Then into the tumbling machine they go. This burnishes the silver losing the dusty whiteness and revealing the true sparkle.

I’ve yet to finish the sycamores and I’ve a couple of experimental pieces that survived the kiln, so do keep your eye on my blog, more magic is definitely happening.

I desperately need to update my shop (though you will find some examples there) and will do so in the next couple of weeks, in the meantime, The Gallery in Leek have invited me to display some pieces there, should you wish to view. Or pop back to my shop at the end of the month.

So do enjoy these beautiful misty chillier mornings – I treasure every one of them and please pop over to my shop. Every piece is unique as I personally hand make/model them. I am a very small business and every piece is made with love. If you can’t quite see what you want then get on touch carolyntrafford@gmail.com as my stock is changing all of the time.
