If you’ve been too scared to speak before and have now read my previous 6 posts about being scared then you’ll have realised that public speaking can be made so much easier and enjoyable by following a few simple ground rules for controlling those nerves and being prepared.
All that remains now is to have some fun.
The first rule of fun is to to relax and enjoy yourself otherwise there is perhaps no point doing this speaking thing in the first place!
The second rule of fun is to encourage your audience to have fun too. There are so many ways to do this – too many to list – but think about the following:
Inject a little humour – not a full stand up routine but a couple of well rehearsed off the cuff remarks. Your audience will laugh and you’ve won them over.
Audience participation, if you have some points to make and can make them visual or even hands on – perhaps you could ask for a volunteer on stage. This is doubly great to do because it takes some of the limelight off you too.
