How would you like to feel more confident?
I expect you’ve answered ‘yes’. I bang on about confidence quite a bit and I haven’t met a person yet who wouldn’t like to have just a little bit more of the stuff. I do meet lots of confident looking people though and as I’ve stated before, my personal view is that this is just an illusion and generally what’s going on inside can be something quite different.
I’ve found a definition of confidence in a development workbook as part of the Springboard Program. So here is how Liz Willis and Jenny Daisley define confidence.
”
- Being able to start things feeling that you will do reasonably well
- you get on with what you want to do
- you feel that whatever happens, you will be OK in side
- being able to have a go even if you’re not sure to the outcome “
So when I read this definition it reminds me that actually, there are times when I am confident. For instance as I sit and write this blog post, I know that I’ll do a reasonable job of it. OK its probably not the best blog int he world, but you’ve read this much of it so it must be OK. And when I started it, I didn’t know what response it would get but yes, I’ve had a go at it.
So my top tip today is:
Never say that you have no confidence, remember that you do. Take a step back and think about another time when you had confidence and remember sometimes its just about having a go!
