My day job (as I describe it) is supporting women to get their WOW back. I work alongside women around regaining lost confidence, self belief and getting out there and living the life they want in a way they want. I work visually and practically encouraging creativity and bringing colour back into their lives. Much more of how I work as a Creative Freedom coach can be found on the main website.
I am also a practicing artist, with accounts and business cards – Yes! I do making some of my living from this. It’s not always easy, there are challenges to overcome – some of that is in my mindset – so I have created myself a 5-year plan – some of it rather scary as it includes exhibiting in galleries and getting my work into shops.
One of the challenges is getting the buying public to realise that a lot of work goes into art. We all like different things and we all place different values on art, but I all too often hear comments like “How much?” at artisan fairs. The reality is that small framed piece has taken many hours to make and the price needs to reflect all costs including petrol, hours designing and making, its an original! stall costs, insurance, no I don’t get sick pay and paid holidays, a pension etc and no I don’t get minimum wage. I work hard for that money.
But yes I do enjoy it. And lots of people are very supportive – when I sell something it means so much and I do a happy artists dance (am I the only one?). And I really appreciate the wonderful and supportive comments for my work.
I support campaigns like #justacard – its simple ethos that if everyone bought just a card, that helps to support an artist – so I take part every year in Just a card week and I do buy cards from other artists rather than buying commercial ones. Most of my Christmas shopping this year has been hand made by me or bought from other artisans. I would encourage you to do the same.
I’d also like to ask for your support. Firstly please visit and like my facebook page . I’m working hard to bring it to life and to sort out a proper shop – it takes time. Every share or comment helps me reach more people.
Secondly an opportunity has arisen to win a place with a company called Wraptuous. If I win I can supply my designs to go onto their products in shops throughout the UK. Firstly I need to secure a place in the final by 10th December. You can help by voting here.
It is really appreciated.
