It was one of those mornings. I knew I had to get up and write a blog post, but the normal inspiration and ideas were just lacking. I did what I always do and set about procrastinating and reading my emails. By chance there was an email from wordpress news, you may have already seen it about author and blogger Rachel Bertsche sharing her ideas about growing blog traffic. Its a good post so please read it here
And it got me thinking. Not about how to grow your blog, but how blogging can help grow you.
- Self Expression and Exploration – Blogs are a great way to express yourself. They have many uses, but one is to use it like a personal journal or diary. Typing is much slower than thinking – it really allows you the time to develop your thought processes rather than letting those thoughts flash by in a second. As a result your thoughts run much deeper and you can express yourself more clearly. Greater clarity is brought about because you will review your words before publishing.
- Release of Negative Emotions – Because blogs can be anonymous or your audience strangers they can be a great outlet for dumping those negative views and thoughts that you don’t want to dump on your friends or family. The support you will get from the blogging community will surprise you.
- Great Feedback and Support – Your readership will be generous in the feedback it gives. Yes, you have to be prepared for some negative feedback, but as long as you are honest and true to yourself your readership will offer advice, solutions and positive feedback and your confidence in you and your writing will grow.

I blog because it does give me clarity in my thinking, but I also blog because I want to share some of the really positive self development and confidence skills that I have learned to help others, so its a twofold thing for me.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on why you blog and what you blog about. Please share them here.

What a great question! I blog because it keeps me motivated and positive when I feel down. I also blog because it’s a constant reminder to live out the life I am trying to lead.
They are great reasons bornattwentyfive. I agree blogging keeps me focused and motivated. Thanks for popping by.

I’m amazed at the blogs I keep stumbing on; varied and open all of them. All very supportive to the writter.
Whatever the reason for a blog, these ideas may have once been locked away in a journal or album for no-one to see. Now people can help, share or just unload a frustration or hopefully, have a laugh with the author (best option).
Blogs are probably one of the best things to come out from the web, though in time, maybe they will change form again – video blogs?
Good topic
Thanks for your comment Dan. Yes I think video blogs will be the future – I am already looking at whether this is something I should and want to do. Watch this space!
