Eek, it’s only when your husband starts to wear odd socks you realise you have a thing about this. A slightly OCD thing.  Matching socks is definitely in my comfort zone. Thankfully my friend was around to help.

I’ve deliberately taken myself out of my comfort zone in order to stretch that safe place.  I recommend to my clients small steps just to gently stretch those boundaries.  Once we make those tiny steps it feels OK again and then we take another step and another.  Its amazing how far those small steps will carry you.

On braver days I’ve taken huge steps, this has involved doing stand up comedy (yes little shy me), a zip wire and wild camping.  Its been fun but very very scary at times.

My friend sent me a gift last week in the post.  A journal.  Ooh I love notebooks and journals but this one was different.  It’s called “Wreck this journal”.  A different destructive activity that’s all very anti-OCD.  From colouring outside the lines, to getting your precious book wet in the shower.  I hadn’t realised quite how difficult this would be for me.

I hope you’ll join me in my journey.  So far this week I’ve created random page numbers, painted with my tongue, torn a page out for someone else to destroy and taken it to the shower.  I’m not suggested you go out and buy a journal (though I have to say I am enjoying being my own rebel).  But look a little closer to home for those comfort zone things, and go out there and do something different.

I would love to hear all about your out of comfort zone successes – do get in touch or post a comment below.
