One of my favourite sounds of the 1980’s – I wonder if Bernard Sumner and his friends in New Order realised that Blue Monday would become an actual day of the year.
So what’s all the fuss about?
Blue Monday is the name assigned to the 3rd Monday in January. It’s believed that it’s a really tough day and one when most resolutions are broken.
Typically on the 3rd Monday, the weather is rubbish, its been a long time since pay day, larger than average credit card bills land on your doorstep with the Christmas spending on them and we’re spending more hours in the dark than the light with summer holidays a long way in the future..
“How does it feel?“
Well pretty rough actually. Fatigue a common symptom of the weather and work/life routines. There’s winter bugs doing the rounds too. Our resistance can be weak and goals seem harder to achieve especially if we’re giving something up.
“Thought I was mistaken ” When you set your goal, you really thought you could achieve it, so what’s changed? It really is just your mindset and that’s understandable. January is a struggle. So it’s time to remind yourself why you set the goal in the first place. You didn’t really want to deny yourself cake and alcohol, so what are you doing it for? To feel better? To look better? Then really tap into the emotions and feelings that go with that. You can do this I know you can.
“From the past until completion” Have a think about when you have achieved your goals in the past. What worked? How were you successful? Is there anything you can take from this and apply to this years goal. You’ve done it once, you know you can do it again.
Motivation or lack of it is the single biggest killer of goals. Many people find that regular coaching sessions can support them in achieving their dreams. One size does not fit all, so I tailor my coaching packages to suit individual needs, if you want to know more give me a call on 07714 216388.
