I was always told to find a role model, someone who was successful and model myself on them. Of course this can be dangerous if we’re not careful. Do you really want to be something you’re not?
Instead I look at some of the actions successful women have in common.
They do more than what’s asked of them. In my sales days this was called delivering the plus 1. You do what people expect and then give a little bit more. It’s anything from putting free samples in with orders to hand delivering an item, or phoning up to check it’s being received.
They are willing to fail in order to eventually succeed. All successful women understand that failures come more easily than success. It is learning from each failure that leads to better decisions later. If we give up at the first failure then we will never succeed, a successful woman will persevere.
They know that luck can be made. People aren’t born lucky. It’s easier for us to label someone as lucky than to consider that they are more successful because they have worked harder. Successful women will strive to do at least one thing every day that moves them closer to an end goal – hard work will always pay off in the end.
I have a number of role models, that way I pick and choose the best bits. It’s critical to remember though that we need to be congruent, if we try and be something we’re not it can lead to failure, consider your values and ethics and stay within them.
It’s a competitive world out there and the path to success isn’t always easy as we can often lose focus. If there’s something you’d like to achieve, give Carolyn a call on 07714 216388 today to book your free consultation to see if coaching could help you with your goals.
