How often do we complain that things haven’t gone our way? Small things. Things like the car journey home from work where we got stuck in traffic. Things like someone cancelling an arrangement at the last minute.
And what do we do? Probably moan about it, making ourselves feel rubbish and giving our nearest and dearest a bit of a downer too.
What can we do about it?
Well we can change the way we deal with it. And I’ve found a process called “flipping it” a very effective and easy way of approaching it. Next time you find yourself in a situation you’re not happy, take time to have a look for the opportunity trapped inside it. Is that traffic jam just an opportunity to take 5 minutes out of your day and think about all the positive stuff that’s happened? Maybe that cancelled arrangement means that you’ve got an hour to sit and finish reading that book you’ve been meaning to finish.
And the really good news is that the more you practice this, the easier you’ll find it and more natural it will become. So why not give it a go.
