I really enjoy sitting down for a quiet hour with a hot drink, laptop at the ready to pen some nice words for my blog. All too often I find myself rushing to get some words onto the page and I know it shows in the text. In fact there’s only one thing (other than the odd cold swim) that I look forward to more. And that’s settling down with a brew and some sewing.

Sew Much Better To Sew

At this time of year I should be sharing my silver jewelry with you. I’m a small independent business and I do need the sales, however as I write I’ve had a tough day. I’ve been for my first annual mammogram – and it hurt. She did say it might on the side I had surgery. It’s totally tipping it down and I just want to stitch.

I’ve had some small stitched embroideries hanging around since I was first taught to sew at the age of 7. They represent part of my childhood where I was always happy.

I’m currently turning them into a fabric book so that they will become part of an object of beauty and there is more stitchery going on there than in the original work. But this one’s for me. Its not for resale and it’s OK to sit in front of the TV and make the pages.

I wish I didn’t have to work to pay the bills, I wish I didn’t have to go into the pouring rain to walk the dogs and I wish that I didn’t have to consider the saleability of some of my art. But that’s life, the secret is to enjoy the happy moments at work, savor the frosty morning dog walks and remember to take time out to sew for me.
