In my other business we talk about opportunity a lot. There are 3 opportunities anyone can take with Neal’s Yard Remedies and it often surprises me how many people simply say “No” before they’ve looked into it further. So how do we spot opportunities in other aspects of life and make the most of them.
Not having time is a simple excuse and easy to use. Now that I’ve opened my mind to opportunity I’ve found that I rarely say “No” to anything the first time I’m asked. “I need to give it some thought” is a great answer but if you choose to use it then do give it thought.
I also frequently tell people I am interested but need to check my calendar as this also gives me chance to think about it too.
I had a great example of an opportunity recently. I was offered a stall at a fair that I didn’t think would be up to much. I wasn’t looking forward to it but had agreed to go and support the charity. In my head I was telling myself it wasn’t going to be much cop. If I had continued on this train of thought, it would have affected my mood and I know I wouldn’t have achieved anything.
So I chose to change my mindset, put on my “this is great” face and set about tackling the world. I took an order, sold a gift set, got a party booking and a new consultant lead plus a free stall at an event 3 weeks later. That ticks all the boxes.
In short, whatever your business or life choice, don’t leave any stone unturned. Think about what you can get out of any opportunity, set yourself some measures of success and go out to achieve them. Who knows where it could lead.
