I’ve been to two conferences this month. Both brilliant informative, motivational conferences but there is so much information to take away, absorb, reread etc
Being someone with good intentions, I make copious notes and with a promise to myself to make the first job I return to the one that says “re-read conference notes”, I inevitably return to my desk the next day to a pile of new emails and unfinished tasks from the days leading up to the conference. They get forgotten to the point that they never get reread.
So I’ve made one small change ( a popular trick of mine) – I still make copius notes, largely because note taking helps me focus on what the speaker is saying. However my trick now is to take the THREE most motivational points from any speaker and implement those. Those three points will make the biggest difference to my life and can usually be implemented easily and speedily into my daily working routine.
So this week at the WIRE conference I learned:
- Don’t over-complicate – the reason I can never keep my inbox at zero is because I have too many levels of folders making it difficult to file or locate key information – and I know this flows over into other aspects of my life – thank you Grace Marshall.
- “If you don’t ask you don’t get” – connect and work with other companies – it’s powerful marketing Cleopatra Browne.
- “The answer is always no if you never ask the question” – go out there and think big, decide what you want to be and who you need to connect with and find them- Julie Dodsworth
These 3 small things have changed the way I see things and I will change what I do accordingly. But they key for me is non of it is information overload.
