There always have to be positives. And I am really loving seeing people on social media not only pulling together, but also turning to the things in which I have always found joy. Turning to art, craft and an appreciation of the outdoors.

I’m ever so slightly envious too. On one hand my business side has dried up. I’ve been slow in setting up an Etsy or Folksy shop – and whilst I’m fortunate that I’m being paid to work at home 2.5 days of the week because without this money I would be financially doomed, I have extra IT at home, my small creative space has been invaded – and so has my headspace.

Today I feel like a little of my mojo has returned and I’ve sat down to do some drawings. Inspired by the beautiful colouring books of Joanna Basford – I want to turn my own illustratative work into little embroideries. My Mum taught me how to embroider when I was about 7 and I continued for a number of years. It’s my oldest skill. I ventured into tapestry and cross stitch in my teens and gave it all up in my twenties.

The joy I used to feel going through the box of transfers and choosing something cute to work with and in my early teens spending hours in The White Hart in my hometown Leek, carefully choosing 2 or 3 beautiful coloured soft silken skeins of embroidery thread. Mum had a couple of embroidery books and I’d learn new stitches – some successful – others not so.

So hopefully I’ll share a bit of progress with you on this one. In the meantime, I do have an online shop full of my beautiful silver necklaces – but it’s small and needs updating. If there’s something special you’d like or you’re interested in one of my hand-bound sketchbooks then please get in touch.
