Apparently it takes 21 days to form a habit. It’s a simple technique that you can use to diet, exercise, be more productive at work, be confident etc and one I use quite a bit. I’ve been blogging for 5 years now, every week on a Friday – its a habit! If I’m not going to be around I blog and post date my post. But OH NO! I was so busy last week I forgot….
I’m horrified. It’s something that I’ve absolutely convinced myself that I do for my readers. That they will be so disappointed that I’ve not blogged that they’ll leave me and move on elsewhere.
And It’s a good opportunity to beat myself up about it.
So what’s the reality?
Yes I have regular subscribers/readers. Do they read every single post on a Friday? No, they probably pick and choose which ones they read and do so when they drop into their inbox. So frankly, nobody will have noticed until they read this post.
Also, am I so deluded to think that my blog is so earth shattering that it the end of the world that it was 3 days late? – Probably.
So the only issue lies in my belief system around this and I need to have a rethink.
My moral of the story: Some stuff matters other stuff doesn’t and my readership won’t desert me for being human. It’s OK to prioritize.
