So 3 1/2 years ago I got exactly what I wanted. A redundancy package that would buy be a couple of years grace to start my business. Hubby had taken his 12 months earlier and set up a photography business. The package was a good one. Good enough to support us on a tight budget for a couple of years, fund a modest holiday and upgrade one of the cars to a newer secondhand model.
I like nice things but I’m not overly materialistic, a make do and mend kind of girl that splashes out occasionally so I set aside some money to take us on a cruise to the Norwegian Fjords. I hadn’t even set my heart on the cruise idea it was simply the best way to see the Fjords and the idea of cruising when I can feel queezy in a car over a hump back bridge was one I needed to get my head around.
3 years later, both businesses are growing but savings have dwindled. The cruise hadn’t been booked. There was never time, either we were building businesses or that small issue that we’re never home together or simply just shattered of an evening and I realised if I didn’t book it we were never going to go – so we made it a priority.
We got back last week from 7 wonderful days with no internet or phones – bliss. – But do you know what? The world hadn’t stopped. Yes my inbox was a bit fuller than normal and I had a couple of customers who needed calling but everything else was fine.
Note to self – make time for what matters in life – everything else can wait.
Taking time out can feel really difficult sometimes, but its also really important to recharge those batteries. If you feel you need help juggling those priorities then do get in touch. I CAN help.
