Happy New Year.
By now you will either have worked out what your 2015 goals should be or perhaps be settling back into your first day back at work when your new year resolutions don’t seem as big a priority as they were.
This short series of blog posts running for the week will hopefully help you firm up those resolutions goals and keep your motivation running high and YOU on track.
Let’s start with some Goal Setting basics – an extract from my workbook
“For The Life YOU Want”
I’m certain you’ve set goals before, so why is today any different?
If I were to ask you the proportion of times you’d succeeded with your goals, I’m not hopeful you’d be saying 100%. The reason I can conclude that is if you were at 100% would you be reading this right now?
So today has to be different. If today isn’t different then you’ll end up with the less than 100% success rate that you’ve achieved before:
“If you always do what you always did,
you’ll always get what you always got”

So if you want to “make a splash” then it starts with setting a goal. More importantly it starts with the What, Who, Where, Why, and How.
What? – Your goal should be whatever you want it to be. You’re really not going to go out there to achieve a goal you don’t want to achieve. So the first thing to do is to give yourself some thinking time and figure out what it is that matters enough to you, something that means so much you’re going to do this no matter what.
Who? – This is important. It has to be about you. Make sure its something that matters to you. You may also want to consider if you need help from others, what do you need from them? Is it realistic to expect their support?
Where? This is simple. It’s about not being a drifter. Consider where is it that you want to be in life, whether personal or work.
Why? – Because you’re worth it! If you don’t have a goal, you could stagnate. Your goal is about moving you forward.
How? The next few posts will talk much more about the how – in simple terms the goals need to be alive, real and very part of your daily life. For now, start to think about what steps you may need to take, to achieve your goal.
Take some time to record the thought you have right now. Remember there are no right or wrong answers; record everything because it may be useful to you later.
